OSHA investigation begins after man falls through skylight

Any type of physical labor has its own risks of injury. Much of the risk depends upon where the job is performed. Labor performed on top of a roof of a building can be particularly dangerous for the workers who have to perform duties at such great heights. One recent workplace accident that occurred outside of California has now resulted in an OSHA investigation.

The investigation began after a roof-shoveling accident that caused one man to be injured. The man was removing snow from the roof of a warehouse when he somehow fell through the roof's skylight. He ended up falling down approximately 25 feet onto the ground. He was immediately transported to a nearby local medical facility via airlift following the accident.

The man was reportedly still conscious and in stable condition when he was airlifted. OSHA is now looking into investigating the incident in order to determine what factors may have contributed to causing the man to fall through the skylight. In particular, the agency is interested to see if the man's employer ensured the adherence to all safety standards at the time the accident occurred. If OSHA does determine that violations occurred, it could cause serious legal and financial issues for the employer of the injured worker.

On the other hand, an employer has a legal right to challenge any allegations of violations resulting from an OSHA investigation in California. To do so, the employer will have to be familiar with the correct legal procedure for challenging an OSHA fine. This will require knowledge of the applicable safety rules and regulations that the agency purports to have been violated by the employer.
