Chemical facility may face another OSHA violation

The pharmaceutical chemical industry can be dangerous and require employers to exercise stringent safety procedures to avoid an OSHA violation and keep workers safe. A California chemical facility may face another OSHA violation for a recent accident that exposed a number of workers to danger and required heavy first response attention. The employees who experienced exposure to the hazardous compounds may be entitled to workers' compensation should they experience damage or injury.

The chemical accident at the local pharmaceutical facility exposed seven workers when the hazardous waste spilled out of its container. This occurred less than a month after an explosion at the same location. The incident took place when a forklift operated by a worker who was transporting the chemicals damaged the large barrel. Reports indicated that over 200 gallons poured into the contained facility.

The company claims to have cleaned up the toxic mess and announced that exposure to nearby residents and businesses, or the environment, did not occur. The California company maintains an on-site fire department that was able to respond and dispatch additional fire safety support from the city, including a group to directly handle the chemical waste. This accident required the seven people exposed to be transported to a nearby hospital for observation and treatment, if necessary.

The Chemical facility may face another OSHA violation as the investigation moves forward. Reports reveal that the California pharmaceutical chemical company has received 37 violations from Cal-OSHA in a two year time span. A worker who has been injured due to their employer's failure to maintain a safe working environment may seek professional guidance in making sure they are compensated appropriately. State regulated workers' compensation benefits typically apply in these types of spill accidents.
