California workplace fatality sparks OSHA investigation

There are many dangers in the workplace. Most of them are well-known, and precautions are taken to prevent injuries to employees. However, despite the most cautious of employers, some accidents still happen. In the case of a workplace death or injury, an OSHA investigation is generally initiated to determine what caused the accident and what can prevent similar ones in the future. Additionally, employees in California who are involved in such an incident are likely entitled to workers' compensation benefits.

One recent workplace accident in California has resulted in a fatality. According to reports, a 61-year-old man was found lying next to a forklift, suffering from fatal wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Unfortunately, there were no witnesses to the accident. A preliminary investigation has concluded that the deceased man was run over by the forklift. As in almost all cases involving workplace accidents, OSHA will conduct an investigation.

While an OSHA investigation can possibly help future employees and can hold the employer accountable for any potential safety violations, the family of the deceased man is likely wondering how they will cope with his death. In addition to the dealing with the emotions associated with the unexpected loss of a loved one, there are several financial ramifications that some people may overlook. In California, workers' compensation benefits likely apply to dependent family members in the case of an employee's death. With some guidance, the family could soon receive compensation to help alleviate some of the financial burdens they may experience such as loss of wages and benefits and funeral expenses.
